The Lincoln Beach Center was established as a center to commemorate the history and legacy of Lincoln Beach. The safety, recreation and reprieve from segregation and discrimination that Black New Orleanians faced, was apparent at Lincoln Beach during its years of operation. At the Lincoln Beach Center, we wish to continue the education of this great legacy, so that future generations can understand where a large part of New Orleans culture comes from. Through visual, written, and oral histories we keep these stories alive. We cannot erase history. Continuing to serve New Orleans East as a community center and museum ensures that the concept of community persists to this day. The center is rooted in New Orleans East, but aims to also serve everyone.
